Default tlok/3.73's/install price

What is the best price I am looking at for all parts and labor for this setup? Also, is our stock axle 7.5? And a lot of people go to 8.8? I seem to recall something about this, but cant remember exactly what it was. It has been a while since I have researched all this...

You are probably best off just ordering an 8.8 with gears and t lok already installed from a new take off. It will cost less in the long run. I actually have a question to add to this topic. Has anyone order a new take off complete rear axle? How was it and did everything work fine? Any problems?

i dont know about the axles but you should be looking between $400 to $600 for install and parts. Some places will charge you alot of labor if you buy the parts elsewhere

I was able to get the t-lok for $215 and the gears for $170. The local shop charged me $350 for the install. So about $735 in all. A take-off 8.8 w/ 3.73 gears will run you about $850 plus possible taxes and shipping it freight. Also if you're not going to do the install yourself tack on another $300 or so.

The stock axle on the V6 is the 7.5. People who swap out for the 8.8 are usually going f/i (i.e Supercharger or Turbo). Some say the 7.5 is not strong enough to handle the increase in power. I think it really depends on the application. If you're not taking it to drag then I personally believe that the 7.5 is fine.

If you do the swap yourself then the price difference between upgrading the 7.5 will be about $250. Plus you'll have a stronger rear end and about 80 lbs more to lung around.

I think the 8.8 only weighs about 40 lbs more. I guess it just depends what you want to do. If you want the 8.8 then the take offs are cheaper. If not, then buy the parts and install.

i am not that interested in replacing the entire rear end. Will a tune be required after replacing the gears? I would assume yes....

How do these look?:

Good price...would they work well for my situation? Fit properly, etc.?

7.5 + install + parts = cheaper than 8.8 take-off w/ 3.73 or 4.10 gears + shipping/handling.

$200 - $300 overall difference. 8.8 is the way to go if you have definite plans for bigger power and dont want to mess with your rear end anymore. parts+install average about $700 all depending on the shop and parts used.

Maybe its cheaper where you live but here in the Northeast expert gear installation can get very expensive. I won't name the place but its a major aftermarket Mustang store and they get over $500.00 just for labor. With 7.5 gears at $150.00+(and you better use FRPP), T-lok at $200.-$450.00+ depending on the brand and the gear installation kit at about $125.00 it didn't take long to make the 8.8 GT takeoff look very good. My 8.8 w/3.55s cost me $965.00 total to my front door. The price was about even w/7.5 costs which made buying the 8.8 a no brainer. Installation was very easy(did it myself, try that with gears), NO WHINE! and I now have a much stronger rear. The extra weigh is minimal(maybe 40 lbs.)and I still have the 7.5 if need be. And did I say NO WHINE!! Under certain circumstances the 8.8 GT takeoff is the best way to go. No problems with piece of mind. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
