NTO true dual exhaust
#11
Mine is on the way. On the list of things to do, the exhaust was to be put on before I changed the front bumper and grill but I damaged the bumper so exhaust had to wait. The only thing that concerns me is the initial cut on the original pipe. Other than that, I feel comfortable cutting out the bumper and mounting the rest of the hardware. What tool did y'all use to cut the pipe; chain style muffler pipe cutter or reciprocating saw?

$374 shipped. Should be here tomorrow but nobody will be here to sign for it. Guess it'll be Monday. I have to wait though, have the wife's '66 Mustang up on my jack stands doing a full brake job, rear axle seals and bearings, housing cover gasket, and maybe I'll have enough energy to change the upper control arm bushings.

Parts came in today. Too late to work on but I decided to just try one of the mufflers in place of the original and.....WOW! Can't wait to go dual. With just that one muffler it sounds awesome so I can imagine what duals will sound like. Gotta finish the '66 so I can get my jack stands back, first.

I still need to make a video of my exhaust, so everyone can see/hear the difference. Since I installed the true duals I have driven 700 miles. The sound at start up is amazing, and idle sounds as good as a gt IMO, haven't noticed any drone or at least nothing I can't live with. I still think they need to break in a little more, the sound a WOT sounds like a G35 coupe. not a bad sound, and thank god not ricey, but I'm hoping it gets deeper. They sound better now with the break-in miles I have put on so far, I'm glad the popping noise during revs went away, so I'm sure they will get better with time.
Over all I'm very happy, and get a lot of compliments.

Glad you are satisified with the sound of the dual system, I run a single exhaust system, I don't know the brand of the muffler, came with the car like that, but I love the popping noise it makes, gives it that old muscle car sound.

Its Done!
Finally got around to putting the exhaust on last night. Took about 3 hours to complete but I think it was worth it. Main thing that was a problem for me was that my jack stands were not tall enough so I had to drop the drive shaft at the rear axle in order to put the new pipes in. Other than the pipes being labeled oddly (the LH one was on the passenger side, RH driver's side - Go figure) the installation went pretty smooth. I did have an issue with the band clamps, two of the wedges broke during the final tightening process. Don't know why they broke considering I was using a 3/8 drive ratchet and one hand to tighten them. The bands are still tight though and the system sounds good. Used a utility knife with a brand new blade to carefully cut out the exhaust exit in the bumper then sanded all the edges smooth. I chose the knife over the dremmell due to being a little scared of trashing the bumper by me not keeping the tool under control. I still have a few minor adjustments to make but that will be a little later in the week. Pics soon.
Called Pypes, two wedges on the way. NTO actually shipped 2 3" band clamps instead of one. The guy at Pypes said I should have used the old band clamp.

$299 has been the NTO price for as long as I can remember, not a sale price. If you can "drop ship" it someplace, shipping could be under $50. I called in my order and got the cheaper shipping method. I've had mine on for about 5 weeks now. Only thing I can see is the passenger mid-pipe has dropped maybe 1/2" max under the rear seat floor board area. So far, not bad enough to mess with. Oh, I cut the bumper with a roto cut-out too. (Like an oversize dremel tool) A mistake, as it burned more that cut. I put masking tape over area to try and protect the paint, and it just gummed up the cutting blade.
