Default 90,000 miles and no major issues!

i changed my oil today. i have 89,998 miles on my 05 4.0 Mustang.

there are NO leaks what so ever. she is dryer than a bucket of sand.

so far all i have had to change is my alternator at 70,000 and my battery at 88,000 miles. the origional battery lasted 6 years!

i am religious when it comes to changing my oil, 3000 on the dot! i am a mechanic so i have aces to a lift and free oil

i use just chevron 5W30 oil and either a bosch 3410 or a motorcraft filter.

i want to trade her in before she hits 100,000 miles but idk if thats going to happen. im already saving for a 11 5.0

Thanks for sharing your experiences with us! We have some pretty stout motors.

100,000 miles is kids stuff and fairly typical on most of today's domestics but that wasn't the case as little as a decade ago. Yeah, you'd have the odd 1 out of 10 that could go the distance and push into the mid to upper 100k miles but it wasn't the norm.

Of the 6 imports I've owned, I had to replace the alternator on only one of them before 150,000 miles (which is the lowest # of miles I ever put on any of those before selling it). But we all know that the S197 alternator is a weak component anyway.

Congrats on your good luck. I'm sure you'll be able to get to 100k if you so choose.

I have a 2005 4.0 and she is getting closer to 82000. When I bought her with 73000 she had a misfiring cylinder. The original battery also lasted for 6 years for me too until it exploded and ate away the paint inside to the engine bay and splashed up onto the outside fender and ate away at some of the paint on there. Aside from that, no problems. Runs when I push her and in all weather.

I plan on building the engine up (I already am pushing 50 extra horses than stock) and I plan on doing more. Great car and engine!

I hope your Stang lasts you much longer!

I'm curious what mods you're running that are gaining you those 50 extra horses (crank or RWHP?). I'd like to see more gains from the g/f's V6 w/o going FI.

Interested.

I think 30-35 crank is the most likely what he has and he should have these mods to get there: intake, full exhaust (headers included), and tune.

Something that may also help and I plan to purchase soon is a polished stock throttle body. $73 to purchase and you can turn in your core for a $20 refund. Flow bench results say 12% higher flow vs. stock. May be good for 8-10HP, hard to say without dynoing. I will report on butt dyno and use the SCT to data log a 0-60 run if I can remember to bring it with me.

Outside of that, getting ported and polished heads yield great gains but cost a lot.

for a somewhat up to date list of, among other things, highest mileage, check out the s197 awards thread here

Definitely not to the wheels. That would be to the crank. And my numbers are probably off because I never got it on a dyno. I am relying off my tuner which displays estimated torque and HP. I could say the average number but the highest it told me was (about) 50 so I'll go with that. Lol
