Default Good tune/cai combo for daily driver w/ manual trans

My powertrain warranty is just about up so I think it's about time to make some mods to my 2007 V6 Pony with manual transmission.

I already bought a single Flowmaster American Thunder axle back. The next step is to get a tune and CAI.

It is a daily driver dealing with commuting in bad Bay Area traffic. A 5 spd is definitely not great for this type of driving, but I just don't like automatics.

Before I spend the cash for the tune/CAI I wanted to see what other drivers with 5 speeds felt about how their cars drove after the mod. I'm looking for some more power but not something that will make driving in traffic a nightmare.

I was thinking of going with the Ford Racing CAI and Procal Tune package.

It seems like a relatively mild tune in comparison to some and living in California the CARB sticker is also nice to have.

Any thoughts on this combo for my purposes?

It's a shame you were under the false impression that a CAI & tune would void your warranty. Regardless, the FRPP tune is lame and IMO not worth the expense. The AM and Brenspeed tunes are nearly twice the RWHP and don NOT cause any issues with drivability as a DD; certainly no more than the FRPP tune does.

Many forum members in CA are running these tunes. Contact AM and Brenspeed for info regarding CA requirements.

I've got a 5 speed and have had a tune and CAI from AmericanMuscle.com for over 2 years now. It won't void your warranty, you will gain horsepower, and it won't effect handling characteristics. In fact, the only thing you'll notice is the increased horsepower, and the 1-2mpg fuel boost (provided you don't keep that newly found power too addictive). I drive across Orlando every day I work, sometimes in stop and go traffic, and the tune won't make traffic a nightmare. The traffic IS the nightmare haha.

Also, the tune and CAI combo will be one of the best mods you can do for your car

Thanks, I'm sold on a combo from American Muscle.

Now the only question is which one.

Options are Steeda, JLT, C&L and FRPP

The Steeda seems to be a bit more expensive than the others.

Are all of them pretty much the same? If not which is the "better" or "best" option?

I popped a JLT and Brenspeed 93 oct. tune into my wife's new 09 V6 manual... 3 days after getting it home...really woke it up...it is a perfect nice weather DD for her...

Performance wise, they're equivalent. I have the Steeda and have no regrets. Many like the FRPP because it looks more like OE.

CAI's are relatively the same....the custom tune is what adds most of the performance gains! I am very happy with my Brenspeed custom tunes. =-)

I have the JLT and SCT custom tunes from AM highly recommend them. Also is stick shift and no drivability issues. And know Bumper-to-Bumper traffic all too well

I've been very happy with C&L + Brenspeed tunes for almost 5 years now. I mostly stick with the 87 & 89 tunes for the daily commute.
