Default 2005 V6 Underdrive Pulleys

Hey people. I have done much research but direct information about our V6s and underdrive pulleys is limited. This in on my list of mods but I want to know if it's worth it.

http://www.stangmods.com/ASP-Underdr...ys-p/00234.htm

Considering this is really the only on on the market, is it really worth getting this pulley? If so, what does the installation entail? I looked at the guides on American Muscle and while informative, they were for an older model GT and not really helpful.

Would I need an Pulley Puller? Could I do it by myself (with minimal engine knowledge if I have the correct tools)?

GT owners I appreciate your knowledge, but V6 information/experience/suggestion would be very helpful.

To re-cap... Worth it? How so? Tools and skills needed for installation? Thanks!

Hi SilverStallion,

I've posted a ton of info regarding these for our V6s. Search my posts and replies. You'll find all the answers you seek.

I got a shop to put this on for me since I didn't have a harmonic balancer puller, but if you got the tool, this is as easy as removing a single bolt. They did this in about 45 min and I was out the door

i installed one on mine. you will need a puller, and it can be trying removing the oem.( ive done this 2 times, once to replace the oem, then to replace the oem with the udp) the crank bolt is set deep into the pulley. you`ll have to use the bolt backed out but still in place for the puller to reach and push on. i backed the bolt out 1/2", then when i ran out of travel, removed it and backed it out another 1/2" till i got it off. you`ll have to remove the belt, unbolt the ps tank, the radiator tank, the fan assembly, i pulled the cai to get it out of the way. all in all, not that hard to do.

Do you guys notice a difference with the UDPs? I've heard mixed reviews and I don't intend going that route, but I'm curious to see if they are worth it or not

The advertised gain of 16 HP and 12 ft/lb is pure BS. In reality, UDP's will free-up about 5 RWHP.

With such minimal gain, you most likely won't even feel a difference.

The average person can feel 5 RWHP but it's not something you feel with most "normal" driving styles. You're more likely to notice 5 RWHP with a rather aggressive style of driving. But it certainly isn't the kick-in-the-pants that a CAI & tune provides.

ya, you dont notice it driving to church, but then i didnt put all these parts on my car for that kind of driving. i think it is a little punchier in the seat of the pants. theres only so many bolt on mods you can do, but all the little 3-5-10 hp gains add up in the end. i`m still gonna add a tb, driveshaft and maybe some shorter rear tires if i can swing it this year and get back to the track for some test-n-tunes
