"need"? maybe not "need". But, would you want the hood to fly up under high speed?
They're there for a reason: to secure the hood in place in addition to the stock hood latch. Those that are for "appearance reasons" and non-functional are junk.

I'm using a fiberglass steeda hood, and it flexes a lot on the highway, especially around truck. But I dont worry about it coming loose and flying up into the windshield.

Sorry to be semi off topic, but what is the shop charging for paint and install? I am planning on swapping my hood when budget permits and wanted to get a ballpark figure.

You have pics? I am assuming that was cost of hood and the body shop, right?

No Sir, body shops don't work for free.

That hood retails around $550/600 with billet inserts +shipping
Add the $575 for paint and install.

Guess I'll be waiting a little bit longer to get it done!

Don't feel too bad...
Some other brands require over $1000 in labor for prep and paint.
For the record, the OEM aluminum retails at $1300.
Insane!

I picked up a CDC/Chip Foose Stallion aluminum hood on close out for $350 shipped, painted and brand new! I don't no if they have any left but for anyone interested it maybe worth looking into. Looks like the hood on pascal's LL but without the hood scoop.

Edit:
Looks like all they have left are primerd ones for $450.
