Hi, Im new here. Just got my mustang yesterday.

Since there was no other option and I needed wheels right then, I got a 05 V6 Mustang auto. Being me, I need to make it faster... A lot faster.

Tell me where to start. I'd like to keep the motor but if not much can be done then I will try to find a V8 to drop in it. Are the auto trannys for the 4.6 and 4.0 the same? I cant imagine too much of a difference.

I desperately miss the speed of my diesel (400hp/760tq) and my bmw. What can I do to make this weak little car throw me back in my seat when i step on the pedal? Please include an estimated price for any suggested mods

Depending upon your budget.....

Low cost performance mod:
SCT Tuner/CAI combo - $600 - $800
CAI & SCT tuner (3 custom tunes)
Reputable tuning company: Brenspeed, American Muscle, Steeda
Performance gain: 15HP - 20HP

High cost performance mod:
Supercharger or turbo - $3,000 - $5,000
Performance gain: 50+ HP

If you decide to drop in a V8, you will need to upgrade the ECU, tranny, brakes, and everything underneath the car to support the added power. The sames goes for supercharging.

I have 1100 to spend total. Not looking to spend all of it though. I dont care about fuel economy, i just want speed. What tuner and cai can give you the absolute most hp?
Theres a lot of different ones out there but each person tunes their car for a different reason. I want speed. My truck had an SCT but stock intake in it and it worked well. Idk if theyre as good for V6 stangs as they are for diesels.

Whats the best DRY filter CAI kit? I do not want a filter like K&N because I have heard horror stories dealing with the oil from the filter going through and screwing up the internals.

Gears are also on my radar. I know they alone wont add hp, but they will help put power down better when I do mod it. Thinking 3.73. Any feedback on that?

If im looking for off the line speed would 4.10 gears be better?

Like others have said, browse the forums and get some ideas.

I've been running the 93 Race tune from BAMA for the past year and a half and the difference is like night and day. My only regret is that I waited so long to get it sooner.

Not sure how common they are down in North Carolina, but you should look into finding a used 8.8 from a GT. Preferably with whatever gear you want already installed. I run 3.73 and love every time I slam on the gas. A lot of people here will tell you to not waste your time with the 7.5, as they aren't as strong.

With only $1100 to spend, you won't be able to do too much. If it's power you want, you really need to go FI but that alone is in the $4k-$6k range and then you need suspension work to hook up. And dropping a V8 in can get as or more expensive as selling your V6 and buying V8.

For $1100:

CAI & tune: about $600. Good for about 15-20 RWHP on the 4.0L. AM, Brenspeed, VMP all write excellent tunes which are much better than the canned tunes sold by the handheld manufacturer.

4.10 gears with the 8.8 rear: Can't tell you how much but I think that, after the CAI & tune, breaks the bank.

SCT tuners are by far the best out there, American Muscle sells them with combo kits that come with the SCT tuner, CAI and lifetime tunes when you need to make adjustments.
