Default This annoying "chirp"

I've had my mustang for a little over a year and I love it. It took me a while to get use to a V6 vs. V8, but this car has proven itself. I went ahead and added a few things to it and I'm fixing it up little by little. I just put a Bassani XHaust on it last Saturday. But there is this annoying "chirp" coming from somewhere under the hood when it's idling. I don't think it's hurting the car but it annoys the hell out of me. Does anybody have any ideas?

Chirping is sometimes a drive pulley misalignment issue.

From another site: Belt noises can be diagnosed with a spray bottle of water. With the engine running and the sound audible, lightly mist the grooved side of the belt with water. If the noise disappears or lessens, but then shortly returns, the problem is probably a misaligned pulley. If the noise immediately increases after the belt is misted, the belt is slipping.

Course it could be a bunch of things, just a thought to check out.

Without any further info, I'd also say a belt or pulley. Typically, a "chirp" is associated with some rotational mass. But if you are mistaking a squeak for a chirp then it could be some type of rub.

Had the same chirp while it was under warranty and the dealership replaced the belt. Chirp went away.

i had belt noise that got worse. turned out to be the crank pulley coming apart which is a real common issue with the 4.0`s. if the rubber ring on the frt of the pulley looks tattered at all, its failing and it will go fast. the replacement oem`s have rubber on the entire face so it would be hard to see it failing.

hopefully its something less going on for you

Thanks I'll have to check that out. That sounds like the issue. It doesn't sound like a belt.
