Default Suggestions for Ball Joint Replacement

Had my car at the dealer for some new rubers, and was informed that my Ball joints have a good amount of wear and should be replaced. I am not going to pay the dealer to do this. I was just wondering what new ball joints are pretty good seeing as an upgrade from the stock ones. There are 2 on American muscle, MOOG and the Steeda X5 ball joints. Anyone have any experience with these? Is one better than the other?
Also if anyone has any tips about taking the old ones out and installing the new ones it would be greatly appreciated as this is my go to car and I especially need it now for fire calls.

Thanks guys

This would be your quickest and easiest fix I would think.

I would just suggest this too. I have the Steeda ones on mine, but the original joints are NOT designed to be removed from the control arm, and it's quite a job replacing them (time consuming + special tools required)

How many miles on that '08? I'd get a 2nd opinion from a reliable NON-FORD establishment before I take the dealers word for it. I'm thinking you're getting a crock...

Red96v6- Thanks for the tip bud. Those control arms seem to be the way to go.

Torch_Vert- So you are saying that the ball joints in the FRPP LCAs are not meant to be replaced? Will they last longer than the stock v6 ball joints?

Nuke- I have 44,000 and some change on the car. There does seem to be some play in the ball joints, not too much but there is still some. I think I might do what red96v6 suggested and swap out the LCAs.

Thanks guys for the help

Ball joints in any of the Ford factory control arms are not really meant to be removed/replaced. Replacing the lower control arm assembly is the standard repair method for worn out ball joints per Ford service standard practice. The Ford Racing arms are repackaged GT500 arms, and hence also have the ball joints considered integral to the assembly.

They do come with heavier duty/stronger joints though, so should last longer, everything else being equal.

What is causing the ball joints to go out? I was told a week ago that mine needed replacing as well with only 56k miles and I work really hard at avoiding potholes and even bumps in the road. Thankfully mine is still under warranty so the dealership is replacing the assembly

I too avoid pot holes in the roads, I think my ball joints just wore out from regular use..plus I don't think the way I drive when I get a fire call helps.

Interesting the differences. I put 180,000 on my original ball joints before they needed to be replaced.
