It's an 06, my first Mustang...

I would be saying the same if this was a brand new Mustang.

What was Ford thinking with the plastic T-stat housing? Bone heads...

The good news is they are inexpensive. The bad news is it may happen again. Anyone that can make a metal replacement would have a hard time keeping them in stock.

Seriously...

No telling what damage occurred during that short drive...
You should not have to live with that.
Congrats for dumbest post in the thread.

That thermostat housing is a true marvel of crappy (German) engineering. I'm on my third one in 150,000 miles. If you drive a lot plan on replacing it every 2 years or so.

Yeah, I'm blaming it on the Germans too. (As an Englishman, we tend to blame them for a lot...)

Right now I have 11K miles on my car with the original thermostat. How many miles does it usually go out on?

No way to answer that. It differs for everyone. Like NicePony said he has had to replace it a couple of times. I only had to replace it once --- at 199,881 miles.
