Cricket-chirp noise issue
Hey guys. I have this annoying cricket noise coming from around the belt area on the front of motor. I replaced the belt, idler pulley, and tension pulley. The belt replace took the noise away for a few days then came back. This noise is constant at times and gets a little crazier when accelerating. Then there are times it almost goes away completly and i think its gone for good. I was going to replace the tensioner next. Any idea before i break and go to a dealership.

Try cleaning the pulleys. I've had belts on other cars that would glaze from heat and the grooves of the pulleys would "varnish" over. I couldn't get them to quiet down unless I used a solvent .

Get a piece of rubber hose about two feet long. Hold one end up by your ear and point the other end at different areas under the hood where you suspect the noise may be coming from. It works like a doctor's stethoscope and is an old mechanic's trick for pinpointing noises.

Problem Fixed
So last spring i sprayed the belt dressing on the belt and made the noise worse. Got a new Dayco belt and cleaned the pulleys with brake cleaner and detail brush. Seemed fine plus it was getting warm out and never made that noise until this winter. I started to put a dab of brake silicone on when it got bad. It would cure the problem for a week or so until it just got constant. I got sick of it and took it to the garage. They said the crank pulley had hardened stuff (probably a mixture of that belt dressing and silicone)in the grooves so they re cleaned all pulleys and put another factory belt on. Noise is gone for good i hope. Maybe if i cleaned the pulley better last spring this wouldn't have happened. Either way that absolutely annoying noise is gone.

Something worth checking out. The idler pulley is made out of nylon? If it has surface contamination that could cause chirping. Especially since it's affected by temperature.

Derf00 ur like is not valid : / but I also have a 2009 4.0 automatic that mainly when it's cold or when starting up after sitting will also make this noise im gonna put a new belt in it this summer and depending on the condition of the idler pully most likely change it?
