How to remove exhaust manifold?
I need to replace the exhaust manifold gasket on the drivers side of my 2006 v6. I've removed all 6 of the bolts that hold it on but I cant even get it to budge to pull it off to swap out the gasket? Any advice on how I should proceed? It should be this simple right? Am I missing something?

I have 95k on the car. And unfortunately that's what I thought where the leak was coming from but it didn't solve the problem. I'm going to have somebody else take a look at it to see if they can find where the leak is located. A lot of time wasted replacing that gasket oh well at least I know how to do it now lol.

Well it turns out that it was not a manifold \ exhaust leak at all. Looks like the spark plug well for cylinder #2 I beleve (middle cylinder on drivers side of motor) is messed up. I replaced the plugs awhile back and for some reason that one was very difficult to get the plug to go all of the way into. Perhaps the threads in the plug well got cross threaded or something. I ordered something called a back-tap that I can use to hopefully repair the threading without having to use a helicoil or a machine shop fix it.
The tapping \ hissing and exhaust smell are actually coming from around that plug. I suppose due to the threads being damaged and it no longer being air tight.

Yeah that has to be what happened. The plug wells are at a wierd angle so you have to be extremely careful. I do thread all of mine in by hand before I put the socket on them to tighten down but something must have went wrong lol. Anyhow I did look into the issue and it seems like an extremely common issue on our 4.0 v6 motors.
I will post an update once I try the 14mm back-tap tool I ordered. I HOPE it will get the threads fixed up.
