There's no magic mod. Simply maintain the engine and tires to spec and drive granny. If you don't like that, Schwinn makes a few nice alternatives.

there is another tradeoff and that is a fuel system that won't get gunked up.

Non-ethanol gas can't be had around here. These days that's not always an option. It'd be nice though.

Default Install CAI for more fuel economy as previously mentioned

You might want to have the Ford Service dept input your Vin# to see if all updates have been performed and what other work has been done.
