Default Thermostat Housing... I think.

Procured my '05 pre-owned in 2007 with 52K miles on her. Kept a close eye on the thermostat housing as I was aware of this being an issue. My thoughts are that because of the mileage, could very well be it was replaced prior to my ownership of the car

Fast forward to this week... and at 146K miles, methinks it's finally begun... at least that's what it seems.... Have the new one... will install over the weekend. Doesn't look like an overly difficult job.

To make it easier, I suppose you should pull the throttle body. Well... if that's the case, I'll clean that too in the process as it's due.

Quite a bit of leakage though... and I'm wondering (as it would be just my luck) if the water pump were failing too. We shall see!

I'll put money on just the t-stat housing. We don't hear about water pump issues hardly at all compared to t-stat housing leaks.

Well the housing is replaced... a bit of a hiccup pursuant to a missing plug in the 2nd, unused sending unit hole....

Interestingly enough, the old housing seemed to be fine... it was more the gasket between the housing and the block that was leaking to beat the band.

Water pump seems to be just fine. (touch wood!)

The problem is usually the housing cracks not a gasket issue.
