EGR & P0401 error

My '06 is also throwing code P0401 (insufficient EGR flow). I know others have replaced the EGR and/or sensor without resolving the problem. I've watched videos that suggest the problem may be a port in the plenum that's clogged with carbon. Has anyone else removed and cleaned it? It doesn't look as easy as the videos suggest.
