I was changing the rear brake pads on my 2008 V6 Mustang and noticed there were no rear jack points for my 3 ton jack.

I had to use the emergency scissor jack on each side to put the rear on stands.

That is a bunch of crap!

Can't you just jack from the diff?

Jacking from the differential is not recommended in the owners manual. One takes a chance if damaging the rear cover and gasket on the differential. I have seen tire shops having to replace said cover and gasket.

I do use my floor jack on the side jack points with a small wood block as a pad against the car.

I can see how it is possible to damage it if the jack is not placed properly. The diff cover is not completely aligned with the pumpkin leaving about a 1/2" to work with. On my 14' and other mustangs I've owned in the past, I've jacked it up plenty of times from the diff making sure not to pinch the cover and have never had a problem. I have done this on a number of cars as well and no issues. Also, the owners manual is most likely referring to the scissor jack that is included with the spare which is small and may not be properly sized to hold the weight of the entire axle. I'm speaking from experience using a 3 ton floor jack.
