Signs of a Going Trans??

What are the signs that your trans is about to go?? I don't have any problems what so ever getting my car into gear, but the trans seems like its whining and stuff. I really don't know what it could be. And I don't have gears in my car, atleast I dont think so. I possibly could have #:73's. What do you guys think?

Tim is on the right track. If you have a shifter, (and you happened to read the installation manual) it says that you will most likely hear more transmossion noise because you take off the rubber boot on the stock shifter when you install the new one. If that is not the case, then watch where you are shifting when the trans is still cold. If you live in a cold climate, then it takes a while for the trans fluid to heat up, so if you drive at low RPM's, it takes longer to heat up, thus you hear more gear whining because your gears are not getting enough lube at the lower RPM's. My suggestion is to leave it in a lower gear, i.e. instead of 5th, use 4th. This will warm up the trans quicker and stop the whining.

Yes, I am pretty sure. The rubber boot on the stock shifter acks like a noise inslulator. I noticed more moise from the trans when I installed the Steesa Tri-Ax in my car. Also I live in Ohio, and it is about 25 degrees here now. When I put my car into 5th gear at about 50 mph, you can hear it whining when the trans is cold. I just leave it in 4th ans let it warm up. After about 15 min or so the whining willbe gone if you shift into 5th and drive at 50. Just my $0.02. I could be wrong.

I hear a lot of whinning even when the car is warmed up with my pro 5.0. I even took the old rubber boot and put it on the Pro 5.0 and I still get a lot of noise....
