Fiberglass hood question
This may need to be moved but I did not see an apperance section, so if it needs to be moved i apologize.
I posted a couple weeks ago that my dad backled into my car and ruined my hood. I have looked at a few different hoods (03 cobra, saleen, steeda q400, and a cowl hood). Some of them i have the option of fiberglass and carbon fiber. I know they are lighter (and more expensive) but are there any problems with them as far as maintance, quality, or painting i should know about in advance? I know with fiberglass hoods it is recommended you use hood pins but anything else?

RE: Fiberglass hood question
You don't NEED hood pins. If it latches, I believe it's fine. Now I know theres a difference with the carbon fiber hoods. Some are just carbon fiber like vinyl on top. Make sure you get a REAL carbon fiber if that's what you looking for.

The Steeda website says that if you plan on exceeding 85mph you have to have hood pins. I read on another site nearly the same thing for another fiberglass hood. Is it just a liability issue, so they put up a disclaimer?

RE: Fiberglass hood question
I'd put on hood pins. Fiberglass and carbon fiber are very light and wind can do a ****load of damage to one. My friend has a Galant with an aftermarket fiberglass hood and he didnt have hood pins on it. Well, he was driving down the road and bam the hood flies up and breaks his windshield and messes up his hood.
It only costs like an extra 20 bucks. Get the pins.

RE: Fiberglass hood question
even if it is shut all the way. my hood seperated (the top blew off from the bottom) while the bottom was still lached down. this was on 96 ford(factory) cobra hood. so get hood pins its alot cheaper that a new windshield, roof, and hood.
