Default No o2 seonsors safe?

I want to get off road X pipe for my 04 mustang. I understand a MIL eliminator or a chip will turn the sensor off. Although the MILS or chip will prevent the "check engine light" from coming on could that also prevent the sensor from relaying important information to make the motor run right. Does the o2 sensor just let you know when there is something wrong with your emissions and exhaust or have an influence 24/7 to make the car run right and safe?

The computer will actually hurt performance after a while.

What?

The MIL's go on the second set of O2's (aftercat's). The one's that are important are the one that go before the cat's. So yes you are ok running MIL's and not hurting your engine.
