Got Synthetic - will this hurt me at all??
I just did an oil change in my Stang. I went with Amsoil because you guys told me it is the best. Question, They sent me 0W30. I didn't pay attention to it until I was done. I am a little concerned because I thought I asked for 0W20. I know the car uses 5W20 regularly, and some guys told me to so with the 0 Weight, so I did. Did I do the right thing?

Tiime for a lesson on how they grade oils.....
Say you have 5W30 oil....here's what the numbers mean...
The 5 is how well the oil flows when it's cold, the lower the number the better, as it will get to criticle areas faster and help protect against wear and make your motor healthier and last longer.
The 30 is it's resistance to breaking down of the protective lubrication layer, the higher the better (to an extent). This is extremely important, as if you get say, 0W10 on a motor who's manufacturer reccomends 0W30, when it's warmed up and being pushed, the oil layer will break down, leading to metal-on-metal rubbing....let's say that ain't good in short.

The oil you put in your car all depends on when your driving it. Personally i live in ohio so it snows like crazy so i dont drive mine in the winter. Therefore i go with 5w30 because my stang doesn't get drove in cold weather. Personally i go with valvoline Synpower. But always remember ONCE YOU GO SYNTHETIC YOU DON"T GO BACK!!!
Never switch back to regular oil after you have ran synthetic in your car.
