Ford Explorer short block

Ford Explorer short block
Spun a rod bearing. Can I put an aluminum 4.6 2003 Ford Explorer block in to replace mine? I have a 99GT. If so, what is the difference other than the alum block? Compression ratio? 6/8 bolt crank? Thanks.

Blocks will be slightly different due to the fact that you are probably running a Windsor motor in your GT and the Explorer will come with a Romeo. The block will work, but you will have to change either your flywheel, torque converter, or both. There will be a lot of changes you will have to make, but it won't be too hard.
Basically, you will have to switch everything over if you want it so that no one can tell you have a non-mustang motor.

It can be done and fairly cheap and simple too. I believe when they had the 2v shootout awhile back in the MM&FF mag, there were guys using the Explorer engine and it is lighter.

ok thanks guys. Yea, I hear 80 pounds, and possibly a new front cover. Apparntly there is one bolt hole up front that doesnt line up, so I can plug it, or get a cover from a 95 Thunderbird? Someone told me that. My meachanic replaced ALL MY ROD bearings, $400, can toy fukn believe that? Cheap. Let you know if it holds up, haha.
