Will I Be Okay?

Will I Be Okay?
Alright this spring I'll be taking my car to the track and I'm hoping everything will run smoothly. Now I have two questions...
1. For drag radials, I can fit up to a 275/40/17 on the rims I plan on using. Should I go as big as I can go or will I get the same traction out of a 245/45/17? The reasons I'm asking are because pricing is a little different and I want the tire to wear properly...
2. When I got my 4:10's in the shop said that my posi has had some hard miles on it and a rebuild should be done in a little while. They said it's still gripping good but there is a tiny bit of play between the clutch plates. Will my differental take 3-5 runs at the track w/ DR's on or should I look into a rebuild before going?

RE: Will I Be Okay?
Go with the largest tire you can, that keeps a decent amount of sidewall. Larger contact patch= better traction. I'd say the differential could handle 3-5 runs assuming you arent launching at 5k rpms. Just don't try to go crazy with it and it should hold for a while.

I agree with Matt. Go easy on the tire pressure as well. Try 15lbs. The launch is key though. A wellprepped track and hard launch can wreck any mostly stock rear, worn or new. Newbie on this board, but not to Stangs.
Good luck.

Thanks guys, I'm still in the debate over the 245's and the 275's but I think my posi will be okay. The reason why the posi is worn is because of the previous owner. I baby it 90% of the time so I think 3 runs w/ DR's and 2 w/ streets will be okay for it.

RE: Will I Be Okay?
this might be easier said than done,, but if you KNOW it will have to be rebuilt some time soon.. why not give it hell at the track? that way you'll know whether or not it could have taken it.
If you replace it w/o it being broke, then you'll always wonder,, what if.... what IF i had launched at 5K and pulled that 1.8 60'.. what IF i had beaten the hell out of it and ran a 13.99
i mean, if that is something feasable and like i said, you are going to rebuild it anyways...just make sure youve got a way to get it home before hand and let it go man...
(like i said, its just a thought, to be completely honest, im not sure if i would do it or not, [X(])
good luck

LOL, I don't think I'm gonna give it hell though. I run it a few times and see how I feel...
