I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it sounds as if your ring/pinion gear or carrier gear has broken teeth.

Are you running wide rims in the rear... I know with my 315's, when I turned hard right it would make a popping noise.. And under hard deceleration, it would do the same.. What I found out was while it wasn't touching the tire, under those circumstances, my quad shock would rub the tire.

crap i hope its nothing serious, ill ckeck the quad shock thing cause i do have 275's in the rear but they arent that much bigger. The thing is tho that it does not sound like its actually in the diff itself, it sounds external!!!

Broken rear sway bar. I think most are hollow and can break. If so, replace it with a solid Cobra sway bar.

Hey man when I had my gears put in I had something extremly similiar. Mine was kind of a clunk though more than a pop, usually when hitting smaller bumps or turning. It was my sway bar, it was a little too loose and it was rubbing against the mounts and creating the sound when metal to metal is tight but loose enough to slightly shift and make the noise, try tightening it up not too much though just really snug not tight. my noise went away after that.
