Default GT Brake upgrade

I am disappointed with the braking performance on my '97 GT. I read that it's possible to upgrade to Mustang '99 and later front calipers (2 piston) with some minor modifications to mounting points on my stock spindles. Do I need to use the '99 and later rotors also? Are those rotors any different in diameter or composition than those on my '97? Do the '99 and later Standard and GT models use the same front brakes? Has anyone tried this and if so, did you notice any difference in braking performance?

Thanks,
