pullin tranny
Hey all~
I'm gonna pull my tranny this friday, and everything is pretty much set and planned and I know what to do. However I want to know what I should use for removing the bolts and such. I have a huge array of 3/8" sockets, and a few 1/2" sockets and such. Which would be better, 3/8 or 1/2? I can go buy some 1/2 no problem. Also, should I buy a few extensions and universals?
Thanks all
George

RE: pullin tranny
all right well I wont' have access to an impact (believe me I work in a shop I totally know how useful they are) but I will be using my sister's garage.. I'm used to using sockets and ratches. I'm going to have plenty of liquid wrench and 'cheater bars'. Yup I have two jack stands at home and just bought another pair... will use all four and get it up as high as possible
thanks a lot

RE: pullin tranny
you'll need about 2.5-3 feet of extensions. the top starter bolt is hard to get to and i used a bunch of extensions an it was perfect. it put the ratchet right by the exhaust manifold on the passenger side was enough room to turn. just my experience, there's probably another way to get it. also the extensions are helpfull to reach the top tranny bolts and make sure you have a swivel.

Yeah I am putting my tranny back in this weekend, extensions are definately the key escpecially for the top tranny bolts the one starter bolt can be a real pain I couldnt get a ratchet up in there I had to use a box end wrench on that one and about break my arm. I dont know why ford didnt make it so that you can unbolt the tranny from the bell housing like the t5 that would have made it a lo easier. Good luck though

score!
OH YEAH tonight i'm goin to my sister & brother in law's house. He's gonna give me a key to the garage and the house (so we can use the bathroom and grab foodage) so between tomorrow and whenever I'm done I can come and go as I please. I can't wait to get started, got all the parts and everything.... not to mention my spring break starts today so I have today , tomorrow and all next week off school so this should be no problem!!!!!

RE: pullin tranny
The tranny removal doesn't take long at all. The only annoying thing that I ran across were the wires at the top of the transmission. The little bracket that bolts on at the top and holds the wiring harness is annoying when trying to put the new tranny back into place. Other than that, nothing really was hard. We were able to pull the transmission out completely in 45 minutes. It was on a lift so that made it easier.
