Ok guys you have convinced me to go with the 3.73 gears. I hooked up with a Ford mechanic who will install them for $200.00, very reasonable. He is even doing it at the dealer. besides the gears he says all I need to change is the speedo gear and that is it. What is up with everyone saying the gears need reflashing? What does that mean? Does the computer or something need to be changed also? I want to get done right the first time. Thanks

Your speedometer can be corrected for your new 3.73's with a speedo gear which is fairly cheap. I want to say $10. Auto Trans needs to be corrected through the computer.
I think the manual can be fixed through the computer as well, but at least you have a choice.

If the Ford mechanic is installing the Gears, he should know what needs to be done.

Auto's need the gear change, manuals need the speed cal unit or a chip. I would hope the mechanic will know what he needs.

pretty sure pre 98's use the speedo gears and 99+ need a speedcal or chip to flash the computer, i hope the mechanic know's hit ish
