2001 GT questions
This is my first post here(hey everone) im moving here from the Jeep world and have a few questions about a 2001 Gt that im going to buy.
so here it is, the only manual car ive driven is my jeep and the shifts on that are extremely long and the clutch push is long too. i test drove
the mustang and the shifts seemed really really close together, if i remember correctly there was very little play in neutral and from 1st gear to
2nd it felt like i only had to pull the shifter a few inches, maybe 2 or 3 at most. is this normal or does this sound like a short throw shifter?
also, the clutch was totally different than my jeep, on the jeep i could slowly ease it out and it would start grabbing almost immediately but the
push was still long. on the mustang it seemed like a long push but the first 3/4 or so of letting it out nothing happened i couldnt feel it grabbing
at all but once i hit that last 1/4 it seemed to grab really well, no slipping in gear or anything. is this all normal? or could it be some sort of after market
clutch and shifter? thanks guys

RE: 2001 GT questions
Yea that all sounds pretty normal. The shifter throw from 1st to 2nd does seem pretty short though,, it might be a custom shifter.
I just got this '02 GT 5 speed & traded my '93 Jeep Renegade 5 speed for it, so I know exactly what you mean about the stang having more precise shifter/clutch
& welcome to Stang world [8D]

Weasel, that 3/4 of wasted clutch travel is normal for 99-01 cars. If you have the seat all the way up to get the clutch pedal to the floor you'll notice your knee probably comes close to hitting the steering column.
Use the foot rest to the left of the clutch to adjust the seat properly. Place your foot on it and adjust the seat back to where your foot is flush with the foot rest without having to stretch your leg to get your heel to contact the floor. Your should knee should have a slight bend in it. Don't forget to use the tilt feature of your seat to get a comfortable driving position.
As for the shift, it does sound like a short shifter was installed. The 99-01 have a long throw between the gears (I call it rowing through the gears when I speed shift) The 02 mustangs have some changes in them.
