un bolting pressure plate and flywheel
Hello all
tomorrow i'm gonna see if i can't pull the pressure plate/clutch and flywheel off of my car (trans is out already)
is there anything special I need? can i do it with regular sockets or will I need an air impact gun? and I have read that when un bolting the pressure plate I should alternate bolts as to not distort anything

RE: un bolting pressure plate and flywheel
you can do it with regular sockets... impact gun makes it much much easier. Mark the flywheel with the motor to make sure it goes back on the same way if you are replacing the pilot bearing. If u make sure the flywheel lines back up, it should be balanced the way it is.

RE: un bolting pressure plate and flywheel
ok I figure I will attempt it with regular sockets and if I have trouble I'll just get a hold of an air compressor. I am on a very limited budget so I'm trying to do everything the best I can with what I have.
Thank you!

Edit: Whoops, forget that
Anyway, then the only issue would be clearance under the car, then... which won't be a problem because you had enough space to get the transmission out.

RE: un bolting pressure plate and flywheel
The pressure plate bolts will come off easy by hand, the flywheel bolts will be a pain in the *** without stopping the flywheel. I take a piece of angle iron about 18" long, drill two holes that match with the pressure plate and screw it to the flywheel wih pressure plate bolts. As I start loosening the flywheel bolts it turns around, hits thecar floor and locks everything in place. You have to do this anyway to re-torque the flywheel to the crank. BTW, now is the time to change your rear main seal if it appears to be leaking.
