Default ticking noise

just bought a bone stock 2000 gt with 23,000 miles on it. when accelerating with the windows up i can hear a ticking sound. the harder i accelerate the louder it is and the faster the engine speed the faster it ticks. i thought it might be an exhaust leak but doesn't seem to be. could it be something in the valvetrain or an injector? has anyone else had this problem?

My dad had a similar sound coming from his engine. he has a 4.6l crown vic. the dealership told him it was the lifters inside the engine where sticking. I don't think it was detonation, but you can always try using the next grade up in fuel the next time you fill up. It won't hurt anything and it'll just cost you a few more $$ than normal. You'll have to use 1/2 the tank to know if it did anything. Also, try using a synthetic oil/or blended oil the next time and see if that helps.

I've got that sound, but it's a header gasket leak. Listen very closely to your manifolds when it's running and see if you can hear if it is coming from them. If one of them is the case, you will hear it very clearly, whereas a valvetrain tic will be more dulled out because its enclosed.

Change your plugs too cuz a guy had a noise like that right before he blew a pluge right out. Have heard of it happening more than a few times.

i've heard that too. You may need to run a constant supply of nitrous to the engine, sometimes lack of NOS causes problems

haha j/k just do a set of plugs and be sure they are all snug
