thanks drake you been big help...the other steering columm was fooze up and corroded so replace the whole columm...do i need to order the tumbler to the vin# before hand..?
I think so, check with Ford on that one, that's the best place to get one... I can't imagine a new one costing that much, they do tend to break. I'd contact them and see if you can get it from them and get it put in first, this way they are doing as little as possible.

By the way, how did you get your hands on that? Just a little dirty on the inside, but looks great otherwise... I think I could use a water-damage car as a project

Edit: Yeah I see the image, lol nice.

My car only came with one key. Actually, it came with 1 and a half keys.

The dealership had 2 keys listed in their computer but could not locate the 2nd key.

I found it though - broken off and stuck in the trunk the day after I bought the car.

anyway, I used this procedure to add more keys to my car...

That won't help him, though... here is what it says for his year:

If you want to initiate a new master key....
1. This requires that the vehicle be connected to special dealer equipment. There are two ten minute delays involved while this device erases all existing key programming and sets up the vehicle computer to accept new key codes. Two new keys should be ready because the system requires a minimum of two keys in the program. After the first two keys are programmed, additional keys can be entered individually by following the instructions for adding duplicate keys (below).

That's what I had to do, too.

Oh that’s right... you need at least one working key. 2 working keys for 98+..

My friend who had a 99 6-cyl also used this procedure to add another key.

He only had one key but was able to borrow the 2nd key needed for the procedure from the dealership where he bought his car.

Somewhere I found instructions on how to program a newer car with only one working key.

You use a magnet to trick the PATS deal into thinking the key is a different key.

Sounded pretty fishy to me.

The guy with the 99… His PATS system died… He ended up just letting the “Buy-here/Pay-here†dealership come and take the car…

hope this helps on the ford pats system there is a colar around the key cylinder.make shure the new colum has this ring.when a car has remote start the remove the ring and in stall it up in the das or in the floor with the key chip taped to it.you can check you keys to see if they have the chips in them by removing the tiny plate on the top of the key.if the original keys dont have the chip the car had remote start.the pats code is stored in the cpu not the cluster.this I know because I worked ford parts fr 4 1/2 years.if it still wont start check your clutch safety switch.hope this helps
