H or X
Exhaust systems that make the best power do so because they scavenge exhaust gases most efficiently. The science used to determine a really good exhaust system is actually pretty complicated. Each cylinder releases exhaust individually, creating exhaust pulses. If the system of pipes is designed optimally, each pulse kind of fits in its place in the exhaust pipes.
The X pipe and H pipe both allow for better scavenging, as they permit the crossover of uneven gas flow... The X pipe, however, directs flow of each primary pipe to a central junction, while the H pipe merely has a perpendicular pipe welded in; The H design creates a little more turbulence and doesn't "direct" the exhaust gases together. Just looking at the two, the X makes more sense to me.
Sorry for the rant. <img border="0" src= smileys/smiley1.gif>
