My '96 has been great for the little over 2 weeks i have had it....the guy said all fluids were changed so i'll take his word for it, i know the oil and coolant were for sure. Mines got 77,2XX on the clock, runs super strong with CAI, headers, x pipe, and slp loudmouth catback. Have fun with yours!

Aftter you do the full tuneup and fluids...

-gears
- exhaust

Those IMO are the two most important. The gears will make you feel the acceleration better and the exhaust is for the V8 rumble. From there you can decide on what you want to do but those are my reccomendations to do first.

I'm in the same boat as you guys. I got my '96 about 3 weeks ago, and so far i'm loving it!

Everyone here seems to talk about getting 410 gears for the auto but what about a higher stall TC? Would that help?

I went with 3.73's in my '98 GT vert which was enough for me. I started at 3.08's so that was a fairly far jump. A '96 may even have a 2.73 in it rather than a 3.08. If you start out at 3.27's, then 3.73's may not seem as all that much change. You may have to check your revs to get a good idea of what rearend you actually have in the car. It may have been changed if you bought it with mods already. You can spin your drive shaft around with the rear wheels off the pavement and get a rough idea of what you have. For instance, one complete revolution of your drive shaft with 3.73 gears would turn your tires/wheels approximately 3 3/4 times around. Otherwise, check the driver's door jam for the spec plate and look for rearend. Mine said "Z" code which translated to a 3.08 ratio.

Get a catback and ditch the straight pipes as they are just cop magnets and no need to be asking for trouble. You can always buy the mufflers only and have them cut into the system. I'd also check the situation on the cats up front. I have what looks as 6 cats on my '98, maybe 4 cats and 2 res's. If you don't have at least 2 cats, you'll also have some problems with your computer and inspections. Larger throttle body and plenum are also good mods if it hasn't been done already.

If you are going to the trouble of changing all your fluids, I would definitely recommend something like Royal Purple synthetic fluids. Check out the Hot Rod TV test: http://www.royalpurple.com/video/video.html

I go Royal Purple in the crankcase, tranny and rearend. Good stuff!

yeah this body style is my fav compared to the newer ones... they are nice don't get me wrong, but these ones have smoother edges and stuff. The only thing my car needs (which it will get eventually if I have anything to do with it) is a fresh PI engine...

yeah these have high milage, doesn't mean everything. Just means they have lived great lives

I'm only the 3rd owner on mine which isn't too bad. The last guy ditched it because his newborn daughter was more imortant and putting a car seat in a stang sux

once my car is on the road again, I'm getting C&C plates, a set of tires and then 3.73s
