MOPAR Part #J316-7393 for Gear to correct speed?!
Hello all,
I recently visited a neighborhood shop trying to find some answers to a few questions, which I have listed below. I have a 98' GT, KN Filter, Flow Master Exhaust w/H-Pipe, Racing Suspension and after market ground effects (has Cobra badges and such....taking them off, soon as I can paint it :-)).
(1) Currecntly my speedo registers well above the speed I am going and my odometer the same. I was told that I could throw in a MOPAR Gear part #J316-7393 to correct this, but that it may not last but 25,000 miles or less. Any ideas?
(2) Best bang for buck, without dropping a ton of $ for supercharger? I was told to get a chip (unknown brand) to increase approx. 30 ftlb of torque to rear wheels.
(3) If I go with the supercharger, was told to get one that would alleviate the "backfire" issue so that I do not blow the engine. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion or comments. I have been a member for a while and owned a few mustangs, but haven't posted much at all. Will be more though in the future. :-) Thanks again!
BTW - Can I post a picture of my car without having it on the net first?

Get the supercharger, you will be happy with it. Just make shure after you install it you have your car tuned by a good performance shop. Also if your car is factory, some superchargers come with a pre made chip to tune the car, so in that case it depends on witch kit you get and what all you have done to the car.

2. Nitrous. Best bang for your buck period, actually. Bolt-on's won't get you far with a 4.6... but they work. You'll feel gears the most. A chip won't really help, at all.
3. I do not know of any backfire issues with the stangs. I think it's to watch out for a nitrous backfire if you're using nitrous, it will crack your weak plastic intake manifold. If you're smart with the nitrous (even with a wet kit), it will be fine.
I think that covers it. There's no reason to fear nitrous! It's not that bad.

I'd love to get the supercharger, but I don't care to spend the $ for one right now. All the chargers I've looked at or researched are above $2,500. Know if any below that are worth it?
Doesn't nitrous take a toll on the engine rather quickly?
Thanks for the responses. They are appreciated! :-)
