Default Question,about braking.

Ok after driving my car for a good amount of time today? As soon as I hit 30mph while braking my car starts shaking. Not bad but very annoying. All the brakes and rotors are fine. Could it be my alignment or just some bad ball joints?

Sound to me like you might have a wraped rotor. It might not be noticable to the eye, But if your car only shakes when you hit the brakes that is what I would think it is.

Next time you have your wheels off make shure they (shop people), or you dont put them on with an impact wrech, tell them to use a torque wrench. To stop the problem you will either have to turn your rotors on a mill or buy new ones and new pads as well. Or you can just have the vibration, and wear out your current pads, but if you do that they wont be reusable.

+1, turn your rotors, that DRIVES ME CRAZY! My wife is the only person I know that can warp the rotors in a POLICE CRUISER in 6,000 miles! When I bought her the retired Crown Vic cop car I thought my rotor problems were over. My cop friends laughed, even they never warped a set!

+1 Take them to a machine shop to get them resurfaced...or if you have a buddy with a lathe give him the rotors and a 12 pack.

I'd try one thing before deciding to turn the rotors.

Loosen all lugnuts 1 turn, then retorque USING A TORQUEWRENCH, following the "star pattern" in 3 seperate steps...

Torque all to 60 ft-lbs,
Torque all to 75 ft-lbs,
Final torque all to 85 ft-lbs.

I've had several cars that I have "fixed" by using correct, even torque. Just one example - My father-in-law recently had new tires put on, and they tried to pressure him into replacing brakes that he knew were only 3 months old. When he got the truck back, it vibrated horribly while braking. Of course, it wasn't their fault - "We told you it needed brakes". When I checked the lugs, they were anywhere from 70-160 ft-lbs of torque on the same wheel... A good re-torque solved that issue. Some of the impact gun jockeys tend to go a little crazy. [:@]
