Everybody just says "4.10's". Does anybody actually have a reason why? I don't want to sacrifice TOO MUCH gas mileage and I don't want to have to buy drag slicks just to get traction in 1st and 2nd gear.

you don't want to sacrafice an extra 1-2MPG? don't lay in on the gas all the time and you'll get nice gas mileage and traction. your foot is the main cause for loss of gas mileage. you can lose like 8MPG just flooring it all the time while you're stock.

I had 3.73's and as compared to the stockers, it was a nice change. When I grenaded my rear end, I switched to 4.10's and would never go back. The decrease in mileage isn't that noticeable, but the performance is much better.

I am looking into getting either 3.73's or 4.10's. I've been leaning towards 4.10's but my friend says id be getting ****ty gas mileage. say I am going down the highway at 75 MPH in 5th gear. What would the RPM difference be? Also, I am 18 and this is my only car, will I get good driveability out of the 4.10's?
does your friend even have 410s? if not, kindly tell him to shut the phuk up. 410s are extremely drivable. as i was out today i was thinking about that very thing. You have great acceleration out of them and can cruise easily in 5th. The only way you are going to kill your gas mileage is: you are stomping the gas all the time cause of the fun the acceleration now is or you are driving 90 mph on hte freeway for hours at a time, everyday. I think 410 are more flexible than stock. the stock 5th is waaay to long for everything except over the road driving. with 410s i can use 5th around town if i want for just putti-ng around and i never seem to get about 3K on hte freeway home from work, and i dont dog it. traction in 1st and second, you will have to get used to it. I enjoyed being able to mash it in second and get some wheelspin, fun to try my hand at semi-drifting. but the car only goes as fast as you push that pedal.

punch your so called "friend" in the face, in the city, you will actually get better MPG cause you will be turning more RPMs but not much, your gas milage will flip highway/city, lower your top end so you have a higher top speed and if you have a light foot it will be fine for traction

sorry to say it but your friend is an idiot.... gears are like any other mod only effect gas mileage on how you drive it.....i drove to houston last weekend first long trip since i got my 4.10's and i got 23mpg the whole trip and i had cruise control set at 80 most the way with occasional burst up to 100+ but 95% was at 80mph.... and in the city they will hurt your gas mileage only if your stomping on the gas.... you will now instead of having to cruise town in 4th gear just cruise in 5th gear....go look at a gear calculator you can see what your rpms will be running... and ANYOONNNNNNEEEE with 4.10's will tell you get 4.10's or 4.30's cuz guess what this is 99% true too most ppl with 4.10's arent disappointed that they didnt get 3.73 they are disapointed they didnt get 4.30's and if their gas mileage is SOOOOOOO horrible why would they want lower gear? common sense man get 4.10's

But I don't want to cruse around town in 5th gear. And I LIKE to punch the gas from time to time, thats the whole reason I bought a Mustang. 3000 RPM is way too high for me to cruse down the hwy. I like to be able to take my foot off the pedal at 70mph and actually be able to COAST DOWN THE HWY!! Its very tiring to have to constantly have the gas pushed just to keep up with speed because your RPM's are too high.

like i said dont argue in here if you dont know the facts... if your ever cruising town over 80mph yeah youll be around 2,661.7 RPM but guess what 65 with 4.10 is....2,162.7 RPM and 50mph is 1,663.6 RPM... so once again dont ask a question if your mind is made up and dont argue if you dont know the facts... here is a link to help you

The more and more I hear the more I think that 4.10's are a good choice. You've persuaded me that gas mileage isnt an issue. Now on to traction. Right now with my stock gears I get good traction flooring it in first, chirp second, and get good traction in second. How different is it with 4.10's?
