Default End all threads for Predator timing advance

OK! Since I've got my predator I've been wondering whats the deal with the timing advance. The stock timing for a Mustang is 10 degrees. I've read various articles of mustangs with my similar mods on a dyno. From the info that I've gathered, an advance of 3-4 degrees would be a good start for me. However the stupid Diablo Predator only increases in percentages, not degrees. What a crock......or so I thought.

Well I did some research and it turns out, the Diablo has a much greater advantage over a mechanical timing advance. The "percentage" increase does exactly what it says. If you increase 10%(max) you will increase 10% more than the original setting, which would only put you at 11 degrees of total timing. However this value will differ as your RPM curve increases at WOT, rather than the idle advance of a mechanical device. A mechanical timing advance of 5 degrees will remain the same throughout the RPM range. I saw a dyno sheet with an advance of just 1 degrees (10%) at IDLE with a Predator which hit a peak of 24 degrees under WOT! Diablosport offers a RWTD (Running With The Devil) custom tune that actually hits 26 degrees peak!

I've found a good website that gives some good information on the Predator as well as some HP gain numbers at various RPM's with the timing advance. Have fun modding!!!!

24 and 26 degrees??? i thought anything over 16 is really pushing the "safe" limits? man timing is confusing

At idle, 16 degrees is pushing it, but when you're at 4000-5000 RPM, more timing is acceptable.

With the Predator tune at max you're only advanced 11 degrees at idle. The degrees of timing will advance through the RPM range only at WOT. If you don't have the car floored it will remain at 11 degrees, which is only 1 degree more than stock. Mechanical timing advancers will advance no matter what the situation is, say +5 degrees will be at idle, daily driving, and WOT.

ooo ok. so at a 10% increase, how much more octane do you have to run being that it's only 1 degree more at idle and like 15 degrees more at wot? i have 94 octane in my town...but it's sky high in price

See thats the thing. If you advance the timing to the max with the predator you should be able to run whatever you want, as long as you drive really slow. I read that if you run anything less than 93 octane it will be fine at idle or daily driving, but will detonate under WOT. I'd suggest starting at 10% on the Predator and driving a few times under WOT. If it detonates, back off a percent or two until it stops.

From what I read, with a mildly modified car (intake, exhaust, pullies, etc) 10% with 93 octane fuel should be fine. But again all cars are different.

what about if your spraying a 100 wet shot. What would be the max percentage you would run. And one more question, when you install the "diablo tune" does it automatically boost the timing? If so, then why does the custom tuning remain at 0%. wouldn't it have gone up a few %. Or is 0% basically the "stock" "diablo" tune. kind of confusing but i hope u get what im saying.
