I was going to say the same thing.

Does it secretly have a roots supercharger on it? They make a whining sound when you give it gas...

Ok seriously, not too sure what all would be causing it but I will try to find out.

It might be the CAI. I might have just never paid attention.

But I went out to my car and drove it. It doesn't do it in park..only when it's in drive and very noticable when stopped or slowing down.
It has a sound like a weed eater...just a lot more faint...same pitch and sound though.

I'm prolly just being dumb. [&:]

From my experienced you should only hear the CAI when you're getting on it. I cant think of any whining sounds off top of my head tho, other then gears.

Can you tell where its coming from? Is it coming from the rear? Possibly the gears, have you had a gear change done in the differential?
And I wouldn't know how to tell if it was different. I'm obviously not that machically enclined. I know/can do do a few things with my car.

The reason I ask if you changed your gears is just because if a gear is done improperly then it would cause there to be a whining sound from the rear differential. I'll ask my friend if he knows what else could cause a whining sound, hes a tech trainy at a Ford dealership.

Thanks. I thought it was the power steering at first...but I don't know why I'd be having a problem with it.

get a mechanics stethascope at an autoparts store and touch it to the base by all the pullies in the engine, my explorer with the 5.0 in it made the same "supercharger sound" and i figured out it was one of the bearings in the alternator
