Ive got the same problem xcept my car dosnt leak any coolant what so ever! No water under the glovebox and no coolant missing from the coolant resevior and i can smell the coolant through the ac vents
Same thing going on here. Just got home from work and there's no coolant under the matt on the passenger side. Nothing under the carpet either.

Kind of wishing there was so I knew for sure. [&:]

if you can get the book and read how a heater core can be exchanged is shouldn't cost you much. also there is a way that you can bypass it. you can bypass th heater core and still have the car work without wasting coolant, but your defrost wont work and neither will your heater. but you will save some money for now until you can figure out how to change it or save money for the shop to do it. the only reason it cost sooo much money is because you have to take sooo much stuff off.
Anybody know how to temporarily bypass it. Not going to be needing the heat since it's already in the fuggin 90's here in the Houston area. [:@]

buy one of those T fittings you use for doing a flush, leave the cap on... take off the two hoses that run to the heater core and put the T between them with two hose clamps.

I had to do this on an old truck, and my buddy did it on his truck. Your car will operate fine with the exception of no heater/defogger

thank you george. if i had some pic i would ahow you, but all yo gotta do is follow the lines to your heater core and find where they split. you should either be able to plug them off or bypass them.

Isn't that the correct area Monkeydude?

I'll just go and buy a manual and see if there's a picture for the in and out flow.

Orrrrrrr, if someone has a manual for a 97 and would like to scan it for me.

ehhhh that's the correct area but just looking at the picture it's kinda hard to tell. You are going to have to confirm which are the two lines that go to the heater core before you loop it off,

let me see what I can find my mom just got me this ford manual on CD off ebay, it has tons of transmission rebuild info lets see about heater core... and I too have a 97
