Default posi unit for 96 gt, wuts the best one?

hey, im just curious if a posi unit is a good idea for my stang? also i need to know what brand is the best too, I NEED ANSWERS!

i don't think i have one........i just need both my tires to spin together than just the 1,.......im gonna be honest, im no mechanic and dont know a whole lot.......i really just would like some information on these units.

well yours SHOULD have one, but it may not. Lay underneath and look at the differential tag

my 97 says this

3 L 27

that's a 3.27 gear and the L is for limited slip

if only one of your tires spins either you don't have a limited slip or it's worn out

my buddy uses an eaton posi on his 72 nova and it's beautiful, I dunno what it would do to on one of our cars

ok, well i am 100% sure i will be getting some Richmond 8.8" 4.10 gears, and i was now wondering if i will need to put a new posi trac to fit on to that gear...

you don't absolutely need a new one but it sounds like the one you have now is toast. I wouldn't waste money re-building it, get a better unit like one of those mentioned earlier

If you are getting a better unit, such as Eaton, which is completely rebuildable, you might as well upgrade to 31-spline axles as well... I don't see the justice in spending the money on a posi if you are not upgrading the axles.

Keep in mind that some like the eaton and auburn are actually limited slip. A true locker will have a ratcheting type design like Detroit, or a spool. The eaton and Auburn will do what you need though.
