Wider back tires
What are the downsides of running wider tires in the back(275 front, 315 rear)? You can't rotate them, but will that result in faster treadwear? What are the benefits other than looks?

RE: Wider back tires
If you keep the front end properly aligned treadwear won't be much of a problem.
I like wider rear tires, they give the car a race track ready look. You would gain a little traction with wider rear tires, but could aggravate an understeer condition.

Would 255/40's on the front and 285/40's on the back be enough to change the stance in a good way? I just looked up on tirerack and I want to stay with my Eagle F1 GS D3's when the tread wears out and I want to get 315's for the back but they're 90 bucks more per tire than 285's and about 30 bucks more for shipping. I've got 275's all around right now fyi

I did 245/275 and never noticed a problem.
For looks/price. I didn't want to spend $220 on front tires. You could do 275's all the way around if you have the $$$.

i just put 275s and 305s on staggared 18" fr500s and it makes it look like a totally different car. I went nitto 555s in the front and drs in the rear, and it was all of 900+ for tires which is alot of dough in my opinion. but if you want that look, and dont let people give you crap that it is just for looks, you might have to pay a bit to get it.

I have 295 tires on 18x10 wheels on the back, and 265 on 18x9 wheels for the front.
In the end, you'll be paying the same for tires over time... Your front ones will wear much more slowly, yes, but chances are you'll only have to buy two tires at a time instead of going longer and getting four new tires.
Benefits? Looks and traction... the 295 tires in the rear grip a lot harder than my bald 245 goodyears did
