I've never heard of jumping wires on a FORd, we just use the WDS, but i know on older toyota you can jump Ec1 and T1 and the check engine light flashes a certain amount of times, say 4-4-1, then you go on TIS and find the code po442 and it will give you a way to diag. I'd like to know about the FOrd way. Cause its news to me too Mdstud

Usualy on a 16 pin OBDII DLC IF it can be jumped to flash codes the number 5 and 6 pins need to be jumped. Number 5 is the signal ground and number 6 s the diagnostic enable wire. So far any car I have tried jumping the DLC for OBDII it doesn;t work. In order to make sure that the Ford DLC is the same as the other OBDII connectors I need to find my other book and make sure that pin 5 and 6 are always the same. The only time I have ever been able to jump a car is the early 93 and under OBDI GM's. Anyone who has worked on fords diagnostic modes knows that there are several different modes that are used to fuly test the system and read all the codes.

Honestly the best course of action to me would be to get the codes scanned again to make sure of what it is. It could be totlay seperate from the AC, Which I was assuming was a pressure Circiut code. If you clear the code out and it comes back get it scaned and see what comes up this time

alot of parts stores will scan your car for free, I know autozone used to - dont know if they still do. the OBDII system was designed to be plugged into a diagnostic scanner, not jumped off like the older gms or the older fords where you could use an ohmmeter

checker will let u check your codes in the parking lot with a scanner for free, just leave them your DL,BTW, WTF you ac turns on a check engine light???? since when, is this Ford only??? never heard of that before. yes a loose gas cap will cause the chk eng light to come on so wil an evap return system leak, or the O2 sensors just use the scanner it will tell you if it is an emissions codes( all of wich i listed above are) even a misfire will set off the chk eng light too, thats emissions as well
