Default pre 99 PI swap

I am trying to find out if it would be wourth it to buy a 96-98 mustang GT and do A PI swap. Here are some other questions about it:

1. How much HP will I be making after the PI swap.
2. Will the car be as Fast as a 99 up GT if I did the PI swap
3. How much would a PI swap run me and how hard is it to do one myself. ( I have limited experience but I am willing to save some money by doing mods myself)

also how much slower is a stock 96-98 GT compared to a stock 99 up GT.

Thanks for your answers aheaded of a time

well you'll be faster than a 99-04 GT with a headswap. A whole headswap kit with ported heads costs 1400 bucks. It has everything you need. I've heard of 96-98 with just PI intake, and long tube headers putting down 266rwhp

I plan on doing it someday, so I been checking around for a while.
HP gain 50-60HP, this is from the higher flow heads,pi-intake and pi cams and what makes it faster then a 99-04 is the 10:1 compression.
You'll have to run 93 octane.
Good to get a tuner, and dynoed after your done, to get the max hp out of it.
96 215hp
97 225hp
99 260hp
It would be good to upgrade the exhaust, and tb/plenum.
They have $1300 kits with supposely everything. Or piece meal from ebay.
Alot of tools required, probably good to rent rather than buy, i was told it'll take 20hrs by a local speed shop.
Porting the pi-heads could give a 10hp extra gain. Or port the non pi heads to equal the pi heads.
They say it's much, much easier to drop in another engine. Like a 4.6 dohc cobra engine and have 300hp as a base.
Hope this helps.

umm not really, cobra engine 3k + install, upgrades=2000 total (with new cams) + install, GT with some bolt ons I've seen run 291rwhp, cobra engines are nice but hard to come by sometimes.

if you want the best info, ask yotehunter, I know he did it. With intake manifold and long tubes he was making 266RWHP, can't do that with a 99-04

The swap can be very sweet if you make it that way Parkway performance here in ga has a whole kit with everything needed $1350 and thats shipped. Look here- http://www.parkwayperformance.com/2vheadswap.asp

From way I see and here the intake is worth about 40hp on the top end(that's where it's needed for the npi cars) and the heads can give 20 or more see here- http://www.modularpowerhouse.com/for...ead.php?t=3463

So together the least increase you would see is 60hp. Personally I would have the heads P&P and get some cams before doing it and long tubes. If you have to just wait to get all of these thing because it will be well worth it.
The way I see it is-

kit gives 60hp
P&P with cams gives +20hp
long tubes & o/r pipe gives +/-20
Total 100hp increase for about $3000
Thats my way of thinking but hp are estimates plus you have to have a tune, and with people saying 266rwhp with intake and long tubes, and others saying 60-70 fwhp increase on the swap I don't know what to think us poor npi guys don't really have a stable answer to the swap and outcomes.
I looked at the $3000 pi swap and then looked at a procharger kit intercooled for not even a grand more that I have seen on a all npi car stock put down 370rwhp at 8psi and got sucked into the supercharger

But if the intake with longtubes can get 266 rwhp with out the heads and cams. I personally would rather have a full pi swap with everything listed. Because I could then see a 300rwhp car which could run low 12's all motor granted a launch kit, tranny, and 4.30's.

sorry for all the talk just my .02

Can't you just peice a pi swap together? I've head guy actually do the whole swap for 300-600 bucks, why pay this much for kit??? Unless your wanting to spend the money and get new parts.
