Tire choice help plz
Hi all,
I just bought a 97' cobra last Sunday. Right away I got the itch to mod. I have some Y2K Cobra R MOtorsport 18X9.5's coming next week and would like some advice on tires. The car will be my daily driver but won't be in rain when I can help it. I also have a Procharger 6spi coming so I would like something that sticks on the back. I've been looking at the BF G'force and Nitto 555R for the back? And maybe Nitto 555 or 555Rll for the fronts? Another problem is the size I should go with on the 18x9.5 rims. Something that is'nt going to be sticking out but have a nice footprint in the back...would 305/35/18 fit on the back without problems? And what would be a good size for the fronts? The car is not lowerd atm but I might drop it an inch. Thanks a TON for any advice! Glad to be part of the forum! Jason

RE: Tire choice help plz
Jason,
I'm real pleased with my Firestone Firehawk SZ50's on my 'stang. They get a beating and continue to perform well on wet, dry, hard cornering, high speed, etc. They only complaint I would register is they are a bit road noisy. I'm on my 3rd set of them.
I have not tried the T/A Force tires but they seem a bit pricy to me. I know for a fact that Gary Blalock, Herb Johnson, and the BFG engineers are all a class act and I'm very certain have developed a quality performance tire. BFG is the tire sponsor for the Trans-Am Series. I see those guys working very hard week in week out to learn their tires in many conditions, always collecting data, always studying any wear and failures, etc. They certainly know their stuff.

take a look at Bridgestone SO2's. I'm on my 3rd set and absolutely love them. they are quieter than the Firehawks mentioned above, and outperform them as well. I've tried BFG kd's, and the S02's are, in my opinion, a better all around ULTRA performance street tire.

RE: Tire choice help plz
I would have to go with russ96gt on this one. Just bought my 2nd set of firestone firehawks sz50s. The road noise is not that bad. I have had no problems with the tires. For some $$$ might be an issue. I was willing to spend the $$$ on them. Go to tirerack and do a comparison on any tires you have been thinking about.
