Default Head Corrosion Under the intake manifold

A friend of mine has his 97 mustang torn apart due to a leak under the intake manifold. When he opened it up he found that there was extensive pitting/corrosion under the intake manifold.

How common is this? How is it best repaired besides lots of Permatex? What is the downside to using Permatex in this application?

Thanks,

Default RE: Head Corrosion Under the intake manifold

This is a result of aluminum oxide. Clean the surface good and fill in the pits with a product called bexane. It is made for aluminum repare. Also next time he puts in anti freeze tell him to use distilled water and a good corosion fighting anti freeze. The leaking coolent will cause corrosion.
