Default Is my clutch going bad?

I have a 98 Stang GT, manual tranny. Everytime I try to put it in reverse it never goes in on the first try. After I let out on the clutch and push it back in, it will pop into gear but it grinds a little on the way in. Does this mean my clutch is going bad? I never have any other trouble with it going into any other gears or grinding at all....just going into reverse. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

are you coming from like 5th gear or anything? because it has a stop that prevents it from going right into reverse from there.

it might just be the synchros or something not the clutch.

i think my clutch is done too except mine will go into reaverse most of the time but i can go from 5th to reverse. what is the stop? is it a little piece on the shifter or in the tranny? ive always wondered why mine went from 5th to reverse but when i wont go into reverse once in a while if i go though the gears or put it in 5th it will go in. anybody have any ideas. thanks

No it's usually when I start it up....when I park I put her in 1st, then when I go to put it in reverse to back it out of the garage it doesn't go in on the first try....but like I said...so far no other problems going into other gears

try adjusting the clutch and maybe changing the fluid. Sounds like something simple, usually the reverse synchro isn't the one to go out, it will be the 2nd or 3rd synchros that will give most probs

I do not believe the T45 has a reverse lockout when coming from 5th.

I used to have a ford explorer, and the M50D transmission has a lockout from 5th to reverse

(I've had my T45 apart and there is no evidence of a lockout in there)

Y would you need to go from 5th to reverse? Not like ur gonna be goin 50 and slam it into reverse. unless ur talking about goin passed 5th on shifter, which shouldnt be a problem. i have 20k miles on mine and its still really tight even when putting it in 1st.

That's why there is a stop...to prevent you from accidentally hitting reverse. Your car will acutally never make it into reverse without a stop, but your dog teeth are going to suffer.
