question about gears... have not seen one like this
 
ok im doing rearend gears this week, ok thats not the problem. i want to rebuild my stock dif with just new clutches from ford racing. 45 bucks or so, they are junk differentials but whatever might as well rebuild since its cheap and im already in there. anybody do this? any advice?

if your changing the differential why not upgrade? eaton 32 spline

when i rebuilt my rearend just for gears i did buy the rebuild kit to replace all the bearing cause they were all "pitted" so you cant go wrong with going back in with all new parts

ok i misunderstood what you said... yes if your doing gears for suuuuure get the bearing and shims replaced.... my car only had 24k miles on it and i still had them replaced....

I did that when I put my gears in the car, cheap insurance I guess. I'd rather know that everything's good in there while i've already got the rear apart than have to go back in and replace something stupid like that. Also, put some extra shims between the clutches when you put it together. I think I almost doubled the amount of shim between the clutches. This keeps the axles "locked" better and it takes much more of a loss of traction on one wheel to set it into one wheel wonder mode.
