Default need to adjust timing

i just got a steeda timing adjuster (thanks chad) recently and wanted to know what i should set it to? the instructions said that for a NA '96 gt, i could set the timing between 14-16 degrees. would different bolt-on combos affect where i should set the timing to? i've already got the timing adjuster, underdrive pulleys, headers, o/r xpipe, spintech mufflers, and a k&n. i'm going to get some 4.10s, bigger maf, plenum, & throttle body. also, do i have to upgrade the injectors with the bigger maf? only if the maf is calibrated for larger injectors, right? some help please. i'm sick of running in the 15s. help me fight the war on rice.

Thats about it.14 being where i would set it now unless you run into detonation and 16 being the highest with mods you have intended.

You really need to watch for detonation in the heat like in summer.I dont know where you are from but if its hot or gets hot be careful. You can really mess some things up and it only takes a matter of seconds.

Not sure I understand the reasoning behind adjusting the timing. What does it gain you? I understand what timing is all about, but I fail to see how adjusting it from stock helps a great deal. Somebody help me here.

I think every car is different when it comes to mods. Some will accept them better than others. To start off I'd set it to 14* and take it for a test drive. Bump up the timing by 1* until you notice the car doesn't like the timing anymore. You've got to play with it a little to see what's right for "your" car.

Read this article on MAF's.

4.10's will help out a lot.

My first run at Hawaii Raceway Park was 16.338. Terrible! I didn't know how to launch. Sometimes all you need is practice.

When you advance the timing you will raise the combustion chamber pressure on the power stroke. This is good ,to a point, but WILL get destructive in a hurry if it's advanced to quickly(off-idle to redline) or if you have to much initial advance(idle advance) dailed in.A good dyno operator is the best way to tune your ignition curve, and anything else for that matter.
