Default help maybe?

ok so since i bought my 01 GT last saturday, the check engine light has been on. i need to get a code on it, but i called Ford and they said they can't just run the code and not fix whatever is going with it. and they are short-staffed right now. i work full time and go to school full time, and i have ZERO time during the week to take it into a shop. i'm worried that something major is wrong with it, and i'm afraid to keep waiting, but there's nothing i can do it seems. listening to it it sounds fine, but i'm still nervous. since it's got exhaust work done to it, would that maybe be the cause? should i be worrying this much? i think i'm going to take it into Autozone right now to get the code scanned. i just thought of that. in the meantime, help if you can offer advice.

ok so i just got back from autozone. they scanned it and said it's an O2 sensor. he reset it, so if the light comes back on, then i know that i have a bad o2 sensor. oh well.

And you shouldn't run around at ALL with a bad O2 sensor. Fix it asap.

i'm not sure if it's an off-road x-pipe or not..i just know it's an x-pipe..and the cats were removed before, but before they could sell me the car they had to put cats on it. so the cat. is only a week old. when the guy at autozone reset the light, it hasn't turned back on yet...i guess that's good news because he said if it came back on that meant i had a bad o2 sensor but it hasn't turned back on yet.

Remember it takes three consecutive starts with the problem showing up before the check engine light comes on. That may be the reason it hasn't showed up yet.
