Default Shifter/Tranny problem

I just bought a 1998 GT 5 speed and quickly noticed a rattling from the tranny, I think. The best way to describe the sound is like a empty can dangling under my tranny hitting the street. I have a warranty on the car but I guess since there is an aftermarket shifter kit, the ford dealership wont touch it. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, answers? So far the best idea is to replace the shifter with OEM and go to another shop. HELP ME!!!

The dealership won't necessarily void your warranty because of an aftermarket shifter, unless they can prove it was the cause of the malfunction. (which in most cases they can't)

If your really concerned about them giving you a hard time, put your stock on before you take it back in.

Can you give more detail? Does it rattle while in gear, neutral, while clutch is in or out???

The dealership didnt issue the warranty, I bought from a small dealership that usually deals with online customers and they dont have a repair shop. I took it to the dealer to getthe job done right. The rattling occurs when in first second and sometimes third while accelerating. No noise while in nuetral reving. Also wanted to know if there should be any fluid in the shifter case. I took off the shift kit to see if it was anything easy and there was only a little fluid on the bottom of the case.

Could it be the engine knocking/pinging ? Kinda sounds like that could be the problem. Just my $.02

im having a noise similiar to what your describing but i have an auto and i have no idea what it is, it does it if i have an 87 tune or 93 tune. i always use 93 octane in the car and it does it under part to full throttle.

I was going to say that your cats might be shot, but you said it doesn't happen when you rev it in neutral. One of my cats went out on me, (damn p.o.s. Mac H Pipe), and it sounded like pots and pans under the car.

How many miles are on the car?? What about the condition of the clutch?? Maybe some pressure plate chatter??

I had a strange sound once, that I thought was driveline related, rattling, sort of chatter.. Turns out it was the timing chain and the tensioners... Who woulda thought??
