Default Proper Break in period for gears

As some of you know my gears are FUBAR because the very intellegent people who installed them didnt shim them properly and to accent that well they told me that my 20 mile drive home would be a sufficient break in period then i could (their exact words) "let her rip man!" Well after being beaten by stock automatic 99-04 GT's i fineally realized that somethiing was seriously F'd so i called the shop and they are going to fix it on may 17 (they are also going to try to fix my predator tuner which refuses to correct my speedometer but that is another horror story) SOOOOO i figured i would ask some intellegent people (you guys) what the proper break in method is for Motive or Ford Racing 4.10 gears on a 2002 automatic GT, thanks guys

I drove mine for about 100 miles or so really soft and then let her rip. No problems with man. The night after I got them put on I heard this rattling noise and i was so pissed off I was outside at 2 in the morning looking to see if it was the gears, it was my exhaust tip. ha

lol... if 100 is good I'd say do 150/200 to be safe. I put 500 on my clutch now and i still haven't let it rip. Waiting to get the clutch cable in so I don't snap that.

Any time you have to break something in, go a little longer than you think or know you need. Can't hurt at all

is your car like bogging a lot? Or just not revving up like it should? That sucks they probably have the gears way to tight... [&:]

They really say a good rule of thumb is to let them break in for 500 miles. Thats not saying you couldn't do 100 and go but if you really were trying to play it safe 500 is the number.

I was told by the guys that did my gears 50 miles would be plenty. Of course I went 75 just to be safe.

I was told to heat them up to operating temp then cool all the way down, three times then run for about 100 miles, then let it rip. That's what I didn't do but I am ordering my new gears and that's what I am going to do next.
